Notice of Press Release - IEPA Director Praises KWRD

On April 8th, the Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District (KWRD) received a visit from Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) Director Dr. John Kim. Dr. Kim toured the facility before presiding over a groundbreaking ceremony that signaled the beginning of a sewer extension project allowing the nearby Village of Malta and Kishwaukee College to be served by KWRD. The project will present major financial savings for the Village and the College and will improve regional environmental protections.

Notice of Rain Barrel Sale - Collaboration Between KWRD and DeKalb County SWCD

The Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District and DeKalb County Soil and Water Conservation District have begun a joint initiative to help encourage watershed health and awareness by hosting a rain barrel sale. The rain barrels will sold at the Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District wastewater treatment plant located at 1301 Sycamore Rd on Saturday, May 8th, between 8am and 11am. Orders for rain barrels must be placed in advance and are currently being accepted until April 30th. Notice of Advertisement for Bids - Harvestore Drive Trunk Sewer Improvements

The Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District will accept sealed proposals for the construction of the Harvestore Drive Trunk Sewer until September 1, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. At that time, bids will be publicly opening via Zoom Meeting and the unit price read aloud. Bids shall be labeled "Bid for Harvestore Drive Trunk Sewer Improvements - Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District." All pertinent documents may be examined at the Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District located at 1301 Sycamore Road, DeKalb, Illinois 60115.


Copies of contract documents will be distributed electronically and may be obtained by emailing or calling Tracy Zenkner, and documents must be obtained from Tracy Zenkner to be on the plan holders list. More information can be found be by following the link below:

Notice of Grant Award - ComEd/Openlands Green Region Program

The Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District has been awarded a $4,253 grant to assist in the "Kishwaukee WRD and DeKalb Park District 2020 Native Habitats" project. This project, which is being conducted in collaboration with the Park District, aims to restore roughly 22 acres of both KWRD and Park District property to native pollinator habitat. The locations being restored are areas of the KWRD wastewater treatment plant, the north end of Hopkins Park near the bike trail, and Rotary Park. Site preparation measures are already underway, and the native seed mixes are expected to be put down this Fall. This project will help to reserve more space for important pollinators like Monarch butterflies and bees, which are becoming increasingly endangered due to lack of habitat.

Notice of Public Hearing - DCEO Rebuild Illinois Grant Special Meeting
The Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District is applying for a Fast Track Public Infrastructure grant through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and will be holding a public hearing on the matter on Friday, May 22 at 12:00pm. If awarded, the District will receive $5 million from the State of Illinois' Rebuild Illinois program to complete a sewer line extension to the Village of Malta and Kishwaukee College. This public hearing will provide an opportunity for public input on the District's grant application and the project in general. Notice of this public hearing has also been posted in the Daily Chronicle as of today.

In light of the COVID-19 safety measures that have been adopted by the District, the public hearing will be held remotely through a Zoom Meeting. The agenda for this special meeting, which has information on how to join the Zoom Meeting, is viewable through the button below. A Planning Report that provides background information on the District's sewer extension project has also been provided below, as well as the public notice that was posted in the Daily Chronicle. Notice of COVID-19 Response and Safety - Updated Management Practices and Policies

The Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District has adopted new practices to limit exposure and reduce the spread of COVID-19. Until further notice, the wastewater treatment plant at 1301 Sycamore Rd has been closed to the public. Plant operations will continue with reduced personnel and updated management and operations practices, with no changes in service to customers.
